Abstract

The study titled "The Call of Jesus Christ Between Exclusivity to the Children of Israel and Universality to Humanity: A Comparative Study of Islamic and Christian Texts" addresses a pivotal issue in religious thought, namely, the nature of Jesus Christ's mission and whether it was exclusive to the Children of Israel or universal for all humanity. The study analyzes the divergence between the Islamic perspective, which asserts the exclusivity of Jesus's mission to the Children of Israel based on Qur'anic texts, and the Christian perspective, which claims the universality of his mission as indicated in Biblical texts. The study aims to provide a comparative reading that seeks to understand the dimensions of this issue within doctrinal, social, and historical contexts.

The study answers the central question: How can Jesus Christ's mission be understood between exclusivity to the Children of Israel and universality to humanity based on religious texts in the Qur'an and the Bible? It also addresses sub-questions related to the Qur'anic and Biblical texts on Jesus's mission, the nature of his message, the stance of the Jews towards it, and the extent to which the Bible supports the claim of Christianity's universality.

Research Methods

  1. Analytical Method: To analyze Qur'anic and Christian texts related to Jesus Christ's mission, examining their nature and implications.
  2. Comparative Method: To compare Qur'anic and Biblical texts, exploring similarities and differences.
  3. Inductive Method: To derive conclusions based on textual analysis.
  4. Critical Method: To evaluate Christian texts concerning Christianity's universality, considering their historical contexts.

Research Objectives

  1. To provide a comprehensive understanding of Jesus Christ's mission as depicted in the Qur'an.
  2. To analyze Christian texts regarding Jesus's mission and the Jewish stance towards it.
  3. To examine the exclusivity of Jesus Christ's mission and analyze the related Christian texts.
  4. To explore the consistency of the claim of Christianity's universality with Biblical texts and contexts.

Key Findings

  1. Exclusivity of Jesus's Mission: The study confirms that both Qur'anic and original Christian texts demonstrate that Jesus's mission was exclusively directed to the Children of Israel.
  2. Weakness of Universality Claim: Christian texts supporting Christianity's universality were subject to interpretation and later additions, raising doubts about their authenticity.
  3. Role of Paul in Christianity's Universality: The study highlights Paul's role in transforming Christianity from a specific religion to a universal one, introducing substantial changes to Jesus's original teachings.

This study aims to provide an objective and comprehensive view of Jesus Christ's mission while highlighting the fundamental differences between Islam and Christianity regarding this issue.
