Abstract

While it is evident that the Prophet Muhammad's words and actions are a primary source of Islamic law. However, his silence, smiles, gestures, or confirmations also serve as a source of Islamic laws. This is a clear example of the miraculous nature of the Prophet's traditions, which are often referred to as the third type of Hadith, or 'Taqriri Hadith.' Given that it would be against the Prophet's prophetic mission to remain silent about an unlawful act, his silence is a sign of the act's permissibility.

After the Quran, the Prophet's traditions are the second most important source of Islamic law. These traditions often explain or elaborate on the rulings found in the Quran, or establish new rulings that are, in fact, applications of Quranic principles. Scholars and researchers have tirelessly worked throughout history to preserve and protect these traditions, ensuring that there are no gaps for Orientalists or those who deny the authenticity of Hadith to exploit. Islam is inherent to human nature. Humans naturally understand purity and cleanliness as a source of honor and glory, as it is a noble and commendable act. Islam emphasizes purity and cleanliness. In other divine revelations, the Prophet ﷺ was instructed to keep his clothes clean. Some of the Companions of the Prophet used to be lax in performing istinja (cleaning after using the toilet) and would often use water for this purpose. Allah Almighty praised them specifically in Surah At-Tawbah of the Qur'an. The Noble Prophet ﷺ, declared purity to be half of faith. Similarly, there are warnings for neglecting purity and cleanliness. The blessed saying of the Prophet ﷺ is: “Generally, the punishment of the grave is due to not avoiding urine.” On such an occasion, you ﷺ said: “The angels of mercy do not enter a house where there is an impure (junubi) person. This is why many scholars of Fiqh and hadith start their books with the chapter on purification (Taharah). Therefore, this research article will first provide a specialized study of the rulings on purity (Taharah) in the light of the sayings (hadith) of the Prophet ﷺ.

This research article aims to fill one such gap by discussing taqriri hadiths related to (Tahara) purity, highlighting their importance in contemporary Islamic practice.
