A Comparative Analysis of Noah's Storm in the Light of the Qur'an and the Bible

Abstract

Noah's storm refers to the punishment that came upon Noah's people. When the people of Noah (علیہ السلام) disobeyed, Noah (علیہ السلام) made a bad supplication for his people, which resulted in the punishment of the flood. It started raining from the sky and water came out of the earth and the whole earth was filled with it. Noah (علیہ السلام) was ordered by Allah to make an ark. Those who believed in Noah (علیہ السلام) boarded the ark and Noah (علیہ السلام) put a pair of various animals in the ark and all the people outside the ark drowned in the water. The ark that Noah built was three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. The objective of this study is to compare and contrast the details of the storm in the light of Quran and Bible. The study shows that according to the Qur'an, when Noah (علیہ السلام) started building the ark, the people made fun of him, while the Bible does not mention it. The oven is also mentioned in the Holy Quran, which has been interpreted differently by the commentators, while the oven is not mentioned in the Bible. According to the Qur'an, a son of Noah (علیہ السلام) was a disbeliever who did not board the ark and drowned in the water, while according to the Bible, the entire family of Noah (علیہ السلام) boarded the ark. According to the Qur'an, Noah (علیہ السلام) preached to his people for nine hundred and fifty years and after that punishment came upon them, while according to the Bible, Noah (علیہ السلام) was only six hundred years old at the time of the flood.
